Trends To Steal From New York Fashion Week 2015

New York Fashion Week is one of the hottest events of the year for Fashionistas. It’s where the most prestigious names in runway display the collections they’ve been working on the entire year. With names like Derek Lam, Calvin Klein, Stacey Bedet, Herve Leger, Jeremy Scott, Prabal Gurung, and more, it’s hard not to get excited about the wonders NYFW promises to present.

If you haven’t had time to keep up with all the going-ons (we get it – you’re working ladies like us!), we’ve done the hard work (if you can call it that) for you and gathered up the hottest trends and styles to steal from this year’s designers!

The mode du jour this year was presenting street-ready designs every woman can wear such as makeup-free skin, messy buns and simple, structured pieces.

Let’s start with the best fashion trends to wear off the runway:

Fashion

Carolina Herrera

Pretty in pink was the theme at the CH fashion show.

Pink, pink and more pink. Everything about Carolina Herrera’s show was pink featuring more than 20 shades of the soft, beautiful color.

Because of the versatility of this color, pink is perfect for dressing up or down and works wear on every skin tone.

Coach

Little House on the Praire meets haute fashion.

Southwestern prints, pampas grass and wildflowers transported us from New York to the prairies of Kansas. The prints to dominate the Coach runway this year were South- and Mid-Western prints and colors. The fabrics varied in color, texture and design creating a quilt-like, worn-in feel. This is such a beautiful style to wear off the runway and we can definitely see ourselves sporting some of Coach’s dresses with vintage booties and a faux leather jacket.

Sophie Theallet

Elegant, feminine and inspired by Mother Earth.

One phrase comes to mind when we watch Sophie Theallet’s show: Earth Mother. The colors were earth-toned, the fabrics light and air, and the prints were simple, yet contained the grace and elegance of nature. The designs to come down the runway were definitely ready-to-wear and incredibly feminine. We love these designs as either an everyday, going-to-work look or a girl’s day out.

Rag & Bone

I LOVE every piece that walked down the Rag & Bone runway.

Tough, edge, and effin’ cool would be the words I would use to describe Wainwright and Neville’s hit collection. Recurring looks were thick, skater-ish sneakers; utilitarian tube dresses; black (and lots of it); androgynous pieces such as tailored culottes, boxer-ish blazers and structured dresses; and slip dresses suspended by contrasting leather straps.

The whole look embodied a masculine-meets-feminine approach to fashion and are looks we can’t wait to try for ourselves!

Milly

Milly’s pieces were structural, minimalist and absolutely beautiful.

I loved Milly’s show! Her pieces could be described as minimalist, romantic, flirty, and modern. The primary colors were denim, blue, white, and other pieces inspired by the sunrise. The designs themselves featured a high-low hem, flared dresses, plunging necklines and cut-out shirt dresses.

Jeremy Scott

Hello, ’60s bombshell!

It’s time to step away from the minimalist fashion and into a scene straight out of Barbarella: Jeremy Scott’s fashion show! Bright colors, high hair and fun made up Jeremy’s fashion show and we couldn’t be happier to see something that was SO DIFFERENT from everyone else.

While the hair might be a bit more difficult to pull off, we would definitely recommend incorporating fun, ’60s prints into your daily wear via a bold, button-down shirt or patterned skirt.

Hair

Altuzarra

This romantic bohemian look is incredibly easy to pull off and looks beautiful.

Half-up hair dominated the Altuzarra look presenting an easy-to-wear hairstyle that’s romantic, not-too-fussy and perfect for every hair type and style. Sections from the front were twisted and pulled around to meet in the back, creating a modern-bohemian, effortless look.

Public School

We love Public School’s modern take on a ponytail.

Looking for a different way to wear a ponytail? Something that’s sleek, but doesn’t scream “librarian”? Public school presented a ponytail that is the best of both worlds – unconventional, but traditional; severe, yet fun. This is a great way to add some elegance to your look without being so boring about it.

Rodarte

Rodarte always brings the mood and atmosphere with its dark, Victorian pieces.

Every year, Rodarte brings its fans a new, romantic look that inspires us to take our everyday style to the next level. This year, it was all about gold accessories. Some of the models sported heavy gold and silver barrettes, along with Victorian-inspired jewelry.

When wearing this look off the street, we recommend keeping it as simple as possible with a chunky gold barrette or statement earrings.

Vera Wang

The fringe is a timeless classic that dominated the VW runway!

We’re so glad the fringe never goes out of style (it’s been my signature haircut for years) and that couldn’t have been more apparent at Vera Wang’s show. The goal was to model the models (strange) after a naughty, but nice French vogue intern. The fringe was kept just below the eyebrows for an edgier, slightly-messy look.

Makeup

Diane von Furstenberg

’70s babe meets tropical in this DVF-inspired look.

Technically, this should go under hair and makeup because the stylists behind the DVF look this year killed it in both arenas. The look was inspired by none other than DVF herself, specifically after her first visit to Studio 54 where she left her hair beautifully curly.

The look is tropical meets disco with creamy eyeshadow in tropical, vibrant hues of blue dominating the lids of every model and curly hair tucked behind a floral accent that looked as if it were straight off of the beaches of Jamaica.

Alexander Wang

Want to sport a no-makeup look? How about wearing no makeup at all?

Need a makeup look you can pull off in less than 5 minutes? How about the no-makeup look? At the Alexander Wang show, the models sported just that – absolutely NO MAKEUP at all. Prep involved rosewater toner, Nars moisturizer and concealer to cover up blemishes. That’s definitely a look we can get behind!

Prabal Gurung

Warm tones made up the Prabal Gurung makeup look this year.

The makeup look at Prabal Gurung was directed towards older women of all skin types and tones. Models sported minimal foundation, taupe eyeshadow with just a hint of shimmer, and a mauve blush that warms the skin.

The intent was to create a warm, naturally-flushed look for Spring that’s easy to recreate and flatters every woman.

Carolina Herrera

With about 20 shades of pink on display, it’s hard to not feel giddy about this beautiful look.

One of the prettiest, most romantic looks to steal from this year’s fashion week is the rosy, innocent glow of Carolina Herrera models. The primary color of every model’s makeup was pink, pink and so much more pink.

The look spotlighted perfectly illuminated skin, pink lips, and subtle pink blush that gave off a naturally rosy glow. The eyebrows were well-groomed, but not too perfect and the look was reminiscent of the girls from Virgin Suicides (before they committed suicide, that is).

Monique Lhuillier

Looking for a bold, but simple makeup look?

Chaos, colors and edge were the major themes of Monique Lhuillier’s look. The makeup inspiration was sporty meets fun meets edgy without a hint of lady. Val Garland played with the theme of youth and fun by striking thick, bold-set eyeliner in vibrant blue and green colors across the lids of models.

The look is super fun and we can definitely see ourselves sporting a vibrant purple or blue to work. For this makeup look, you can either play it down by wearing a monochrome outfit or play it up by contrasting an equally bright color with your eyeliner.

Jason Wu

The classic red lip gets its own makeover with minimal makeup.

What Jason Wu really wanted to do this year was re-brand the red lip from an old lady look to a youthful, fresh look. The way he did this was by pairing a bold red lip with absolutely nothing at all – no foundation, no eye makeup, no lip prep, just a red lipstick smeared across the lips of young, fresh models. The line of thinking was to recreate a look a girl, waking up with absolutely no time to get ready, would pull off if she had to be at work or an event in 5 minutes.
